When Peter, disobeying his grandfather, goes out of the house gate, he encounters not only a duck, a fluttering bird, and a dangerous wolf. Perhaps, wandering leisurely, between a cat and a hunter, he discovers that stories can be many, if one takes the time to listen to them.
Peter and the Wolf is a musical fairy tale that has become one of Prokofiev's most famous works. Written in 1936, it is a typical example of a Russian fairy tale with the animal world interacting with the human world. The composer takes us into a charming dimension through a simple tale, full of distinct characters, sparkling and entertaining. The greatness and fortune of this iconic work is that it is brilliant and meaningful for both adults and children.
Prokofiev's work will be framed by two suites taken from twentieth-century masterpieces: West Side Story by Bernstein and Porgy and Bess by Gershwin, arranged for a version suitable to be performed by the soloists of the Teatro Regio.
