María Eva Duarte de Perón was an actress, politician, trade unionist, and philanthropist from Argentina, the second wife of President Juan Domingo Perón and First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death, which occurred from cancer on the evening of July 26, 1952, at only 33 years old.
Evita is still today an icon for all Argentinians: a controversial figure, with undeniable charisma, she represented the ideal of woman, mother, wife, comrade, and champion of the downtrodden.
